Our team members first met during a volunteer activity cleaning up a river in Beijing. While picking up trash and testing water quality, we observed that the river had turned green — a visible sign of environmental distress. After researching online, we discovered this was a symptom of eutrophication, a serious ecological problem affecting water bodies worldwide.
This observation inspired us, as high school students, to ask: What can we do to help address this critical environmental challenge? After deep discussion and research, we decided to design a smart buoy system to monitor and treat algal blooms in real-time, combining our passion for environmental protection with innovative technology.
